Meditation Teacher Training
A Home Study Program by Sri Goswami Kriyananda

Sessions begin September 1, 2008 and March 1, 2009

Meditation is a spiritual practice that does not require a belief in any doctrine or theology. Anyone can benefit from its practice, regardless of cultural or religious affiliation. Meditation reduces stress and improves health, concentration, and focus. It is a tool for self-transformation that quiets the mind and leads to peace, tranquility, and wisdom. It is a turning around in consciousness that will induce an expansion in your horizon of awareness.

The Meditation Teacher Training Program (MTTP) is a twelve-month home study program with two retreats, which are required for certification. The course materials include books, printed lessons, CDs, and DVDs. Students may communicate with their classmates via e-mail. Individual support is available upon request.

MTTP offers you the theoretical knowledge and practical training you need to take the rewarding step from practitioner to teacher. It will provide you with a solid foundation on which to establish and sustain your own meditation practice. You will discover meditation techniques from a variety of traditions that will enhance your personal practice.

The course will expand your understanding of meditation and help you to develop the skills you need to teach meditation effectively. You will learn how to structure meditation classes and workshops. You will also be given tools that will help you to convey the value of meditation to your students, inspire them to cultivate their own practice, and markedly improve their lives.

The gift of meditation is what you can attain but what you can remove. Meditation helps people to let go of fear, confusion, and dissatisfaction. It softens the personality and fosters serenity and joy. It assists in developing greater compassion, patience, and peace in every facet of life. Even more importantly, it helps people eliminate the root-cause of the pain and suffering that they experience in life -- the self-generated mental/emotional patterns and attitudes that are detrimental to one's spiritual health and happiness.

Because meditation is only mastered through practice, the primary emphasis in the first phase of this program is on methodology and the development of your personal practice. The second phase of the program focuses on the philosophy, neuro-physiology, and psychology of meditation and will help you develop the tools you will need to be an effective meditation teacher.

The Meditation Teacher Training Program was created for those who want to deepen and refine their personal practice and learn to teach the art and science of meditation. The course is also open to students who wish to learn to meditate and expand their understanding of meditation as a spiritual discipline. Certification will be offered to students who complete the required coursework and demonstrate both a clear understanding of the materials and spiritual maturity.
